Multi-storied construction likely for urban housing :

  • Aim is to meet targets of Prime Minister Awas Yojna .Having finalised five locations, the government is considering the feasibility of going in for G+7 construction in several locations in the district to meet urban housing targets.Tenders have already been finalised by A.P. Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDCO) for construction of housing in G+3 blocks at five locations- Satyanarayanapuram, Raticheruvu, Parawada, Aganampudi and China Mushidiwada. The units are being constructed under Prime Minister’s Awas Yojna – Housing for All (urban) with State and Central governments subsidising the scheme. The Government of India has sanctioned 4,408 units at the five locations. In the other 23 locations, the housing units sanctioned are 16,820.

With multi-storied construction, the norms of the Fire Department have to be adhered to, to meet any contingency, to obtain building plan approval. The number of housing units that can be constructed in the identified sites in the city limits will now depend upon the feasibility of multi-storied blocks in 15 locations. In another six locations, small extents of land is available and the TIDCO is expected to go ahead with construction there.Besides Visakhapatnam, Yelamanchili and Narsipatnam are the other two urban areas where housing under the scheme is being taken up.
